CLAIM: We must pass Amendment 66 in order to provide school funding transparency.

FACT: The Colorado legislature could have passed it last year for $5 million, a fraction of this tax hike.

We all agree that additional transparency in school funding would be helpful.  This past legislative session, an amendment was introduced to pass the same transparency measures that Amendment 66 is touting.  This would have cost just $5 million, a fraction of the one billion dollars per year that Amendment 66 will cost.  It’s not fair to hold transparency hostage to a one billion dollar per year tax increase.

Additionally, the proposal excludes the additional property tax for capital improvements in growth school districts and property taxes paid to cover bond debt for construction projects, from being reported in the transparency system.
